Samsung Profit Surges on Strong AI Chip Demand
Samsung Electronics expects a sharp increase in first-quarter profit, driven by booming demand for artificial intelligence (AI) chips. The surge highlights a strong recovery in its semiconductor division.
Operating Profit Jumps More Than Eightfold
The company forecasts operating profit of approximately 57.2 trillion won ($38 billion) for the January–March period. This marks a significant increase from 6.69 trillion won recorded in the same quarter last year.
Revenue Growth Reflects Strong Market Demand
Samsung estimates revenue will reach around 133 trillion won, up from 79.14 trillion won a year earlier. The growth reflects rising demand across its core semiconductor business.
AI Boom Drives Memory Chip Recovery
The strong outlook signals a major rebound in the memory chip market. Demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and other AI-related semiconductors has surged, fueled by rapid expansion in generative AI technologies.
Samsung Benefits from Tight Supply and Higher Prices
As the world’s largest memory chipmaker, Samsung is benefiting from tightening supply conditions and rising chip prices. Major technology companies are increasing investment in data centers and AI infrastructure, further boosting demand.
Significant Improvement from Previous Quarter
The projected results also represent a sharp improvement from the previous quarter, when Samsung reported operating profit of 20.07 trillion won on revenue of 93.84 trillion won.
Full Earnings Report Expected Soon
Samsung has not yet provided a detailed breakdown by business segment. The company is expected to release its full earnings report later this month.
