Pi Network has taken a major regulatory step forward after officially registering under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework. This move could significantly broaden Pi Coin’s access to major European markets, which were previously blocked due to strict compliance standards.
Pi Network Achieves MiCA Registration
The project confirmed that it has formally filed within the MiCA system, granting Pi Coin a clear pathway toward legal recognition in the EU. Until now, Pi remained largely unavailable across Europe because of tight regulatory requirements.
This development follows the launch of Valour’s Pi ETP on Sweden’s Spotlight Stock Market in August—Europe’s first regulated investment vehicle tied to Pi. The ETP, traded in Swedish kronor with a 1.9% management fee, gives investors compliant exposure to the Pi token without requiring direct ownership.
Analysts also highlighted Pi Network’s energy efficiency outlined in its MiCA documentation. The network uses only 0.0024 TWh per year, compared to Bitcoin’s 185 TWh, representing a 99.9% reduction in energy usage. This positions Pi as one of the most environmentally friendly blockchain networks, aligning closely with global sustainability goals set by the United Nations.
Before securing MiCA registration, Pi Network worked with legal teams at Maetzler Rechtsanwalts (Austria) and Prighter Ltd (UK). SocialChain also completed GDPR certification to ensure full compliance with the EU’s strict data privacy requirements.
Expansion Efforts Strengthen Pi’s Ecosystem
Pi Network has been actively expanding its ecosystem. The project recently joined the ISO 20022 standards group, placing it alongside compliant digital assets such as XRP and Stellar. Meanwhile, Protocol 23 is progressing through multi-stage testing, with analysts linking the network’s growing technical stability to Pi’s increasing market momentum.
Dr. Altcoin noted that full mainnet integration could be achieved by December or early Q1 2026. He emphasized that each development phase is being validated with a methodical approach.
In addition, the release of Pi Node version 0.5.4 has improved network performance with upgraded reward calculations, giving Node operators more precise insights into their activity.
Pi Network has also expanded into artificial intelligence through its recent partnership with OpenMind. This collaboration introduces AI-focused applications into the Pi ecosystem, allowing nodes to earn additional income by supporting machine learning compute workloads.
