OpenAI Plans to Integrate Sora AI Video Generator into ChatGPT

OpenAI is preparing to launch its artificial intelligence video generator, Sora, directly inside ChatGPT in the near future, according to a report published Tuesday by The Information, citing sources familiar with the company’s plans.

The move would expand OpenAI’s efforts in multimodal artificial intelligence, allowing users to generate video content within the same platform that already supports advanced text and image generation.

Sora Strengthens OpenAI’s Position in the AI Video Race

Sora represents OpenAI’s push into the rapidly growing AI video generation market, where it competes with similar text-to-video technologies developed by major tech companies such as Meta and Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet.

While AI models focused on text generation have already seen widespread adoption in workplaces and households, tools capable of producing high-quality images and videos are increasingly seen as the next major step in the evolution of artificial intelligence.

Sora Launched as a Standalone App in 2025

OpenAI originally introduced Sora as a standalone application in September 2025. The platform allows users to generate AI-created videos from text prompts and share them through social-style feeds similar to social media platforms.

The tool can transform prompts into dynamic video content and supports creative workflows where users remix or build on existing material, including content derived from copyrighted sources.

Standalone Sora App Expected to Continue Operating

According to The Information, OpenAI plans to maintain the standalone Sora application even after integrating the technology into ChatGPT. This approach could allow the company to support both casual users within ChatGPT and dedicated creators using the separate Sora platform.

Reuters noted that it could not independently verify the report. OpenAI also did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside normal business hours.

The potential integration highlights OpenAI’s strategy to expand ChatGPT into a broader AI content creation platform that includes text, images, and video generation.
