Meta’s Llama AI Approved for Use by US Government Agencies

The U.S. government has approved Meta Platforms’ artificial intelligence system, Llama, for use across federal agencies, a senior administration official confirmed. The move is part of the Trump administration’s strategy to integrate commercial AI tools into government operations.

The General Services Administration (GSA), the government’s main procurement body, will add Llama to its list of approved AI tools, according to Josh Gruenbaum, the GSA’s procurement lead. Federal agencies will now be able to test and deploy Llama, with full assurance that it meets all security and legal standards.

Llama is a large language model (LLM) designed to process multiple types of data, including text, images, video, and audio. By gaining federal approval, it joins a growing set of AI tools that agencies can use to improve efficiency.

In recent months, the GSA has also cleared AI tools from Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI. These companies agreed to offer their products at significant discounts while complying with federal security requirements.

According to Gruenbaum, the initiative is not about politics but about collaboration between government and technology leaders to strengthen the United States. Federal agencies are expected to use Llama to streamline contract reviews, accelerate IT troubleshooting, and improve overall government operations.
