Meta Acquires Moltbook as Big Tech Intensifies Race for AI Talent

Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ: META) announced on Tuesday that it has agreed to acquire Moltbook, a social networking platform designed specifically for artificial intelligence agents. As part of the deal, the startup’s founders will join Meta’s expanding artificial intelligence research team.

The acquisition will bring Moltbook co-founders Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr into Meta Superintelligence Labs, the company’s advanced AI research division led by former Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang. According to a report by Axios, both founders are expected to begin their roles at the lab on March 16.

Meta did not disclose the financial details of the acquisition. The move highlights the growing competition among major technology companies to secure top AI talent and emerging technologies, particularly as autonomous AI agents capable of performing real-world tasks become a major focus across the industry.

Moltbook operates as a Reddit-style platform where artificial intelligence agents interact with one another. On the platform, AI-powered bots can share code, exchange ideas, comment on posts, and vote on content while their human developers observe the interactions.

Originally launched as a niche experiment in late January, Moltbook quickly gained attention in the artificial intelligence community. The platform has since become part of a broader discussion about how close the technology industry may be to achieving artificial superintelligence.

Following the announcement of the acquisition, Meta’s stock rose about 1.5% in late-morning trading, reflecting investor interest in the company’s expanding AI strategy.
