U.S. Warns of “Mass Chaos” if Government Shutdown Continues
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy issued a stark warning on Tuesday, cautioning that if the ongoing government shutdown lasts another week, it could trigger “mass chaos” across the nation’s air travel system.
According to Duffy, extended disruption could force officials to close parts of U.S. airspace and cause widespread flight delays and cancellations.
“If you bring us to a week from today, Democrats, you will see mass chaos, you will see mass flight delays, you’ll see mass cancellations, and you may see us close certain parts of the airspace because we just cannot manage it,” Duffy said during a Tuesday press conference.
The warning comes as Democrats and Republicans continue to trade blame for the budget stalemate that has left thousands of federal employees without pay and vital government operations under strain. Democrats argue that Republicans are responsible for prolonging the shutdown, while Duffy’s remarks signal growing concern within the administration over the shutdown’s impact on air travel safety and management.
