UAE Condemns Iran Attacks as “Economic Terrorism”

The United Arab Emirates has strongly criticized Iran’s attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, labeling them as economic terrorism. The CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) warned that no nation should be allowed to threaten such a critical global trade route.

ADNOC Chief Warns of Global Impact

Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, CEO of ADNOC, described the targeting of the Strait of Hormuz as an act of aggression against the entire world. Speaking via video message at S&P Global’s CERAWeek conference, he emphasized the global consequences of disrupting energy flows through the region.

He stated that turning the strait into a geopolitical weapon represents “economic terrorism against every nation” and stressed that such actions must not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Strait of Hormuz Disruption Raises Global Concerns

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important energy transit routes globally, handling around 20% of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments prior to the conflict.

Recent attacks have effectively halted tanker traffic in the region, creating significant concerns about global energy security and supply stability.

Security Risks Outweigh Supply Issues

Al Jaber highlighted that the situation is primarily a security crisis rather than a supply shortage. He stressed that the long-term solution lies in ensuring that the strait remains open and secure for international trade.

UAE Targeted Despite Non-Involvement

Despite not participating in military actions against Iran, the UAE has come under repeated attacks. According to the country’s Defense Ministry, Iran has launched hundreds of missiles and drones since the conflict began.

These attacks have resulted in casualties and injuries, further escalating tensions across the region.

UAE Calls Attack Unjustified and Unprovoked

Al Jaber described the strikes on the UAE as illegal and unjustified, emphasizing that the country had taken steps to avoid involvement in the conflict.

He reiterated that the UAE did not seek confrontation and had actively worked to prevent escalation.

Escalation Following US-Israel Strikes on Iran

The conflict intensified after a major joint strike by the United States and Israel on February 28, which targeted Iran’s leadership and military infrastructure.

In response, Iran has launched retaliatory attacks across the region, including against countries that were not directly involved in the initial strikes.
