Iran Denies U.S. Talks, Calls Reports “Fake News”

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Monday rejected claims that Tehran had engaged in negotiations with the United States, describing such reports as “fake news” aimed at influencing financial and oil markets.

Ghalibaf Accuses Media of Market Manipulation

In a public statement, Ghalibaf said no discussions had taken place with Washington. He argued that the narrative of negotiations was being used to manipulate market sentiment and distract from the current geopolitical situation involving the U.S. and Israel.

Trump Claims Talks Took Place

The denial follows comments from U.S. President Donald Trump, who told reporters that American envoys had held discussions with a senior Iranian official. Trump suggested that both sides had found common ground on several issues.

He also stepped back from earlier threats to target Iran’s power infrastructure, citing what he described as productive diplomatic engagement.

Reports Suggest Backchannel Contacts

According to a report by Axios, U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were allegedly in contact with Ghalibaf. However, Trump did not confirm the identity of the Iranian official involved, stating that revealing details could put the individual at risk.

Iran Signals Firm Stance Amid Tensions

Ghalibaf emphasized that the Iranian public expects a strong response against perceived aggressors. He added that government officials remain united in supporting the country’s leadership and will continue to stand firm in defending national interests.
