Google to Invest $9 Billion in South Carolina to Expand AI Infrastructure
Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL), announced plans on Monday to invest $9 billion in South Carolina to expand its artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and strengthen its data center network across the state.
The multi-year investment, which will run through 2027, will focus on expanding Google’s Berkeley County data center campus and supporting the construction of two additional sites in Dorchester County.
Ruth Porat, President and Chief Investment Officer of Alphabet and Google, said in a LinkedIn post that the funds will also go toward programs designed to support energy affordability and provide workforce training for careers in South Carolina’s fast-growing tech and energy sectors.
“This investment helps drive job creation in South Carolina as the state continues to benefit from the rise of AI,” Porat noted.
The announcement marks a major expansion of Google’s footprint in South Carolina and underscores the company’s commitment to building out AI infrastructure across the United States.
