German industrial orders increased more than expected in October, although the rise was largely driven by major large-scale orders, according to official data released on Friday.
The federal statistics office reported that orders climbed 1.5% from the previous month on a seasonally and calendar-adjusted basis.
Analysts surveyed by Reuters had forecast a much smaller increase of 0.4%.
When excluding big-ticket items, new industrial orders rose 0.5% compared with September, reflecting more modest underlying demand.
However, the three-month comparison, which offers a smoother trend, showed that orders from August to October were 0.5% lower than in the previous three-month period.
Revised figures also indicated that orders in September rose by 2.0% from August, compared with the earlier estimate of 1.1%.
