France’s Inflation Slows to 0.9% in October, Slightly Below Expectations
French consumer prices rose at a slower pace than expected in October, according to preliminary data released on Friday by the national statistics agency INSEE.
The harmonized inflation rate, which aligns France’s data with other eurozone countries, came in at 0.9% year-on-year for October.
A Reuters survey of 20 analysts had forecast inflation at 1%, with estimates ranging from 0.8% to 1.1%, making the actual reading slightly weaker than consensus expectations.
The softer inflation figure suggests that price pressures in France continue to ease, adding to signs of cooling across the wider euro area as energy and food costs stabilize.
