President Trump is expected to interview Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller on Wednesday as part of the ongoing search for the next Federal Reserve chair, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.

Trump weighs candidates for Fed chair role

Sources familiar with the process said the interview schedule remains flexible, noting that meetings could still be delayed or canceled as President Trump continues to review potential candidates for the role.

Last week, Trump held discussions with former Federal Reserve Governor Kevin Warsh. He later said Warsh is among his top choices for the position, alongside Kevin Hassett, who currently serves as director of the National Economic Council.

Waller’s role at the Fed and policy stance

Christopher Waller was appointed to the Federal Reserve Board by Trump and confirmed by the Senate in 2020. This year, he has gained attention as one of the strongest internal supporters of interest rate cuts.

The Federal Reserve has lowered rates by a quarter point at each of its last three policy meetings. In July, when the central bank chose to keep rates unchanged, Waller dissented from the decision, casting a vote in favor of a rate reduction.
