Michael Sonnenshein, the former CEO of Grayscale Investments, has taken on a new role as Chief Operating Officer at Securitize, a platform specializing in tokenization of real-world assets. Sonnenshein began his position on Monday, bringing extensive leadership experience to the rapidly expanding blockchain sector.

Securitize’s Achievements and Partnerships

Securitize leverages blockchain technology to create tokens representing real-world assets, with over $1 billion in tokenized assets currently on-chain. The firm collaborates with prominent asset managers such as BlackRock Inc., Hamilton Lane, and KKR to bring tokenized funds to market.

Carlos Domingo, Securitize’s CEO and co-founder, expressed confidence in Sonnenshein’s ability to drive growth:

“We look forward to benefiting from his leadership, experience, and commercial acumen to scale our operations and empower investors to access the full potential of tokenized real-world assets.”

Sonnenshein also shared his excitement for the new role on social media platform X.

Sonnenshein’s Legacy at Grayscale

Sonnenshein joined Grayscale in 2014 and served as CEO from 2021 until stepping down in May 2024. During his tenure, he led the firm’s transformation into the largest crypto asset manager, overseeing tens of billions of dollars in assets under management.

Under his leadership:

  • Grayscale expanded its portfolio to over 20 funds.
  • It spearheaded efforts to secure SEC approval for U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs.

In August, Sonnenshein was succeeded by Peter Mintzberg, a former Goldman Sachs executive.

Sonnenshein’s move to Securitize marks a new chapter in his career, where he aims to contribute to the growing adoption of blockchain and tokenized assets.
