ESPN and Fox to Launch $39.99 Sports Streaming Bundle in October

ESPN and Fox announced Monday that their upcoming streaming services will be bundled for $39.99 per month, starting October 2. The package will give sports fans access to major events, including the NFL and NBA, at a discounted rate.

First Major Sports Rights Holder Deal Since Venu Sports Collapse

This is the first significant sports streaming deal between major rights holders since Disney (NYSE:DIS), Fox, and Warner Bros Discovery (NASDAQ:WBD) abandoned their Venu Sports joint venture. The project was scrapped after facing substantial legal opposition.

Bundling Strategy to Boost Subscribers

Media companies are increasingly bundling streaming services to keep subscribers engaged amid rising prices and a crowded market.

The new package combines Fox One, which offers sports, news, and entertainment content, with ESPN’s direct-to-consumer network, featuring professional and college football and basketball. Both services will debut on August 21.

Focus on the Sports Fan Experience

“We continue to look for opportunities to streamline the user experience, especially for the ultimate sports fan,” said Tony Billetter, Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at Fox Direct to Consumer.

Expanding Beyond Cable Television

Fox’s new subscription service aims to grow its audience beyond traditional cable TV. The bundle is positioned to attract sports fans seeking a cost-effective, all-in-one streaming option.
