U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said on Tuesday that trade negotiations with China were moving in a positive direction.

“The talks with China went very, very well,” Lutnick told reporters.

He noted that while there was a possibility the discussions could extend into Wednesday, the goal was to wrap them up by Tuesday evening.

“We’re aiming to finish the China talks,” Lutnick said, expressing optimism that the discussions would conclude later in the day.

The negotiations are focused on easing tariff tensions between the U.S. and China—two of the world’s largest economies—and have been under close watch by investors seeking signs of improvement in global trade dynamics.
