China has expressed willingness to continue trade discussions with the United States following encouraging outcomes from recent talks held in Geneva, according to a commentary published Tuesday in the People’s Daily, the official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party.

The article praised the easing of tariffs between the two nations, describing the Geneva dialogue as a positive first step toward ongoing negotiations aimed at addressing trade and economic disparities.

“While challenges may lie ahead, China is prepared to collaborate with the U.S. to build on the progress of this high-level economic and trade dialogue,” the commentary stated in its English version.

As an authoritative voice of the Communist Party, the People’s Daily commentary reflects a more optimistic outlook in Beijing regarding the recent trade developments. The U.S. agreed to reduce tariffs on Chinese goods from 145% to 30%, while China lowered its tariffs on U.S. products from 125% to 10%.

Despite these reductions, the tariffs remain significantly elevated, indicating further room for negotiation.

The commentary emphasized that a stable trade partnership aligns with the interests of both countries and supports global economic stability. However, it also urged the U.S. to fully reverse its practice of imposing unilateral tariffs and to cooperate with China in developing mutually advantageous trade policies.
