Beijing and Washington Likely to Extend Tariff Truce in Stockholm Talks

Beijing and Washington are expected to extend their tariff truce by another 90 days during trade talks starting Monday in Stockholm, according to a report by the South China Morning Post (SCMP). The report cites sources familiar with the discussions.

During this three-month extension, both China and the United States are expected to avoid introducing new tariffs or taking any measures that could intensify their ongoing trade conflict.

Earlier trade discussions held in Geneva and London focused mainly on de-escalation. However, in Stockholm, the Chinese delegation is also expected to raise concerns about U.S. tariffs related to fentanyl. This issue will reportedly be a key topic in the latest round of talks, according to three sources.

Reuters has not yet independently verified the SCMP report. The White House has also not provided a comment at this time.

The Stockholm meeting marks the third round of negotiations between the U.S. and China. Officials aim to address long-standing economic disputes at the heart of the trade war.
