China Imposes New Limits on Nvidia’s H200 AI Chips

Chinese authorities have notified a limited number of technology firms that purchases of Nvidia’s H200 artificial intelligence chips will only be approved in exceptional cases, such as for use by university research centers and development laboratories.

The guidance signals a tougher approach from Beijing toward the U.S. chipmaker’s access to the Chinese market. According to a report by The Information, which cited two sources with direct knowledge of the matter, the policy update was communicated to companies earlier this week.

The move indicates that China is adopting a more restrictive stance on allowing Nvidia’s most advanced AI processors back into the domestic market, reinforcing barriers around high-end semiconductor technology.
