iPhone sales in China increased by 22% year-on-year during the first month after the launch of the iPhone 17 series, even as the overall smartphone market continued to weaken, according to a private survey released on Friday.
Data from research firm Counterpoint shows that the new iPhone 17 lineup drove the majority of Apple’s sales in China following the September 19 release. The iPhone 17 models made up nearly 80% of all iPhones sold to Chinese consumers during this period.
In comparison, iPhone sales in China fell 5% in the first month after the iPhone 16 series launch in September 2024.
The iPhone 17 debut attracted large crowds, with hundreds of customers lining up at Apple’s flagship store in Beijing on release day. This response highlights strong brand loyalty, despite growing competition from local rivals Xiaomi and Huawei.
Counterpoint also reported that China’s overall smartphone market remains weak. Third-quarter sales fell 2.7% from a year earlier as consumer demand stayed subdued.
