Anthropic Launches Project Glasswing to Strengthen Software Security

Anthropic unveiled Project Glasswing on Tuesday, a new cybersecurity initiative designed to tackle vulnerabilities in critical software systems by bringing together leading technology and financial institutions.

Major Tech and Finance Leaders Join the Initiative

The project is backed by an impressive group of launch partners, including Amazon Web Services, Apple, Broadcom, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Google, JPMorgan Chase, the Linux Foundation, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Palo Alto Networks.

AI-Powered Security with Claude Mythos Preview

At the core of Project Glasswing is Claude Mythos Preview, an advanced AI model developed by Anthropic. Although not yet publicly released, the model demonstrates cutting-edge capabilities in detecting and exploiting software vulnerabilities.

According to the company, Mythos Preview can outperform most human experts in identifying security flaws and has already uncovered thousands of high-risk vulnerabilities across major operating systems and web browsers.

Focus on Defensive Cybersecurity Applications

Through this initiative, partner organizations will deploy Mythos Preview strictly for defensive cybersecurity purposes. Anthropic plans to share key findings with the wider industry to improve overall software resilience.

Additionally, access has been extended to more than 40 other organizations responsible for developing and maintaining critical digital infrastructure. These participants will be able to analyze and secure both proprietary and open-source software systems.

$100 Million Investment in AI Security Efforts

Anthropic is committing up to $100 million in usage credits for Mythos Preview to support these security initiatives. The company is also contributing $4 million in direct funding to organizations focused on open-source cybersecurity.

Addressing Risks of Advanced AI Capabilities

The initiative also reflects growing concerns around the misuse of powerful AI tools. Anthropic warned that if such capabilities fall into the wrong hands, they could pose serious risks to global economies, public safety, and national security.
