History of troubled Star Wars game releases by Aspyr

This isn’t the first time Aspyr has faced backlash over its handling of Star Wars game releases. In April 2021, the company re-released Republic Commando, which suffered from a game-breaking bug on the Nintendo Switch version. Similarly, the launch of Knights of the Old Republic 2 on Nintendo Switch in 2022 was marred by a critical bug that prevented many players from completing the game. Moreover, the promised “Restored Content” DLC for KOTOR 2 was abruptly canceled by Aspyr, further disappointing fans.

Aspyr’s future amidst ownership changes

Aspyr’s struggles with Star Wars game releases come amidst ownership changes within the company. As a subsidiary of Saber Interactive, which recently acquired independence in a $247 million deal, Aspyr may see improvements in its development processes and resource allocation. The acquisition also raises hopes for the much-anticipated Knights of the Old Republic remake, which has seen little progress since its announcement in 2021.

Despite its rich history of beloved Star Wars games, Aspyr has faced criticism and disappointment with recent releases due to a myriad of technical issues and design flaws. However, with newfound independence under Saber Interactive, there is optimism for improvement in future projects. As fans eagerly await updates on the Knights of the Old Republic remake and other Star Wars ventures, the fate of Aspyr’s involvement in the franchise remains uncertain yet hopeful.
