Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ: SMCI) shares surged approximately 13% during early US trading on Wednesday after the company significantly raised its quarterly revenue forecast, citing accelerating demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The AI server manufacturer now expects substantially higher sales and improved profit margins, providing fresh optimism for investors following recent concerns about spending across the AI data center industry.

Super Micro Raises Revenue Forecast as AI Demand Accelerates

Super Micro announced on Tuesday that preliminary revenue for its fiscal first quarter, which ended September 30, is expected to reach between $18.5 billion and $19.5 billion.

The revised guidance represents a substantial increase from the company’s previous projection of $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion.

Moreover, the midpoint of the updated forecast stands at $19 billion, significantly exceeding Wall Street’s consensus estimate of approximately $14.99 billion.

The stronger outlook reflects growing demand for advanced servers and computing infrastructure supporting artificial intelligence applications.

Analysts at Mizuho attributed the improved expectations to rapidly expanding server demand and favorable trends surrounding agentic AI technology.

The announcement helped drive Super Micro stock sharply higher as investors responded positively to the company’s stronger growth prospects.

Super Micro Expects Higher Profit Margins

In addition to raising its revenue expectations, Super Micro increased its projected gross profit margin for the quarter.

The company now anticipates gross margins between 12.0% and 12.5%, compared with its earlier forecast of 10.4% to 10.8%.

Management attributed the improvement primarily to a more favorable combination of customers and products.

The higher margin outlook suggests that Super Micro expects to generate more gross profit from each dollar of revenue than previously anticipated.

This development could help ease investor concerns about profitability as the company continues expanding its AI server operations.

Strong AI Server Demand Eases Previous Investor Concerns

The updated financial guidance comes after a period of uncertainty surrounding Super Micro’s business performance.

Previously, the company warned that its fiscal fourth-quarter revenue would likely finish near the lower end of its projected range.

That announcement raised questions about the pace of demand and the company’s ability to capitalize on growing investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure.

More recently, the broader AI data center industry has faced increased scrutiny over the sustainability of its rapid expansion.

Investors have expressed concerns about substantial capital expenditures, debt-financed infrastructure projects, and elevated borrowing costs.

These worries contributed to a sell-off in AI-related stocks during the previous week.

Companies exposed to large-scale data center development were particularly affected, including AI cloud infrastructure provider CoreWeave and enterprise cloud computing company Oracle.

However, Super Micro’s latest revenue upgrade offers a more encouraging indication of demand for specialized AI computing equipment.

Super Micro Earnings on November 3 in Focus

Investors will now turn their attention to Super Micro’s upcoming quarterly earnings announcement, scheduled for November 3.

The company is expected to provide its complete financial results and further details about demand, profitability, and future growth expectations.

The earnings release will also follow a recent leadership change in the company’s finance department.

Last week, Super Micro appointed Mark Long, a former Western Digital executive, as its new chief financial officer.

His appointment comes as the company navigates rapid expansion and increasingly demanding financial requirements associated with AI infrastructure development.

For now, the combination of stronger revenue guidance, improving gross margin expectations, and accelerating AI server demand has helped restore investor confidence.

Nevertheless, the upcoming earnings report will be important in determining whether Super Micro can translate its higher sales expectations into sustained financial performance.
