Bitwise plans to liquidate its Dogecoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) in October, less than one year after launching the product.

The Bitwise Dogecoin ETF (BWOW) held approximately $688,000 in net assets as of Sept. 9. Trading is expected to end on Oct. 14, while final cash payments to remaining shareholders are scheduled for around Oct. 22.

Bitwise to Close Dogecoin ETF

Bitwise announced on Thursday that it will shut down the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF as part of an effort to optimize its product lineup and respond to changing investor demand.

The fund was originally launched on Nov. 25, 2025, giving investors exposure to Dogecoin (DOGE) through a regulated exchange-traded product.

However, less than a year after its debut, Bitwise has decided to liquidate the ETF.

BWOW Trading to End on Oct. 14

The final day of trading for BWOW on NYSE Arca is expected to be Oct. 14.

Investors will still be able to buy or sell shares through the end of that trading session. Afterward, the ETF will stop operating and enter the liquidation process.

Bitwise also plans to convert the fund’s Dogecoin holdings into cash on Oct. 14.

In addition, the ETF will stop creating new shares before the market opens on Oct. 15.

Shareholders to Receive Cash Payments

Investors who continue holding BWOW shares after trading ends will automatically receive cash as part of the liquidation process.

The payout will be based on the net asset value (NAV) of each shareholder’s position as calculated on Oct. 21.

Payments are expected to be distributed on or around Oct. 22.

According to Bitwise’s closure notice, shareholders will not need to take additional action. The cash redemptions will be processed automatically through their brokers or other financial intermediaries.

The closure marks the end of Bitwise’s Dogecoin ETF less than 12 months after its launch, highlighting how quickly demand and product strategies can change within the cryptocurrency ETF market.
