Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said artificial general intelligence, or AGI, has arrived, pointing to OpenAI’s new GPT-6 Astra model as a major milestone in the development of artificial intelligence.
Huang made the comment in a post on X on Sunday while congratulating OpenAI on the launch of Astra.

“AGI has arrived,” Huang said, highlighting the rapid pace of progress in advanced AI systems.
OpenAI describes GPT-6 Astra as its most intelligent and aligned model to date.
The company says the system delivers leading performance across several areas, including computer use, software engineering, cybersecurity, scientific research and professional tasks.
GPT-6 Astra Built on Nvidia Infrastructure
Huang also emphasized the enormous computing power used to train the new AI model.
According to the Nvidia CEO, GPT-6 Astra was trained using more than 100,000 Nvidia Grace Blackwell NVLink72 systems.
The scale of the infrastructure highlights how much computing capacity is now required to train frontier AI models.
Huang also noted that another 400,000 Nvidia GPUs are expected to come online.
Nvidia Highlights Rapid AI Progress
Huang pointed to the speed at which OpenAI’s technology has advanced.
He referenced the progression from ChatGPT to OpenAI’s o1 model and now GPT-6 Astra over a period of roughly four years.
The rapid improvement demonstrates how quickly AI capabilities have expanded as companies invest heavily in chips, data centers and model development.
OpenAI President Also Points to AGI Era
OpenAI President Greg Brockman has also suggested that GPT-6 Astra could represent the beginning of the AGI era.
However, artificial general intelligence does not have a universally accepted definition.
The term is generally used to describe AI systems capable of performing a broad range of intellectual tasks at or beyond human-level ability.
As a result, whether any current model qualifies as true AGI remains open to debate.
GPT-6 Astra Posts Strong Benchmark Scores
OpenAI reported strong results for Astra across several advanced AI benchmarks.
The company said the model achieved 98% on FrontierMath Tier 4 and 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3.
It also reportedly scored 100% on ExploitBench, a benchmark focused on cybersecurity-related capabilities.
These results support OpenAI’s claim that Astra represents a major step forward in advanced reasoning and technical performance.
Nvidia Remains Central to the AI Boom
The launch also highlights Nvidia’s continued importance to the artificial intelligence industry.
Frontier AI companies increasingly depend on large clusters of Nvidia GPUs to train and operate increasingly complex models.
For Nvidia, the continued expansion of AI infrastructure could strengthen demand for its latest-generation chips and networking systems.
Huang’s declaration that AGI has arrived reflects the growing confidence among technology leaders that AI development is entering a new stage, although the industry continues to debate exactly where the boundary between advanced AI and true AGI should be drawn.
