Bitcoin Holds Near a Five-Week High
Bitcoin traded close to a five-week high on Wednesday after recovering from its recent decline. Investors focused on negotiations over a major US cryptocurrency bill and the continuing conflict between the United States and Iran.
Fresh inflows into spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds helped the cryptocurrency rebound from its yearly lows. The recovery also provided support to the wider digital asset market.
Bitcoin slipped by 0.1% to approximately $65,858 during early trading.
Spot Bitcoin ETF Inflows Support Recovery
Improving demand for spot Bitcoin ETFs has played an important role in the latest price rebound.
These investment products have attracted renewed capital after Bitcoin fell sharply earlier in the year. Stronger institutional inflows helped restore market confidence and encouraged a broader recovery across cryptocurrencies.
However, Bitcoin’s upward momentum slowed as political and geopolitical uncertainty remained high.
US Senators Debate the CLARITY Act
Attention shifted to discussions in the US Senate over the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, commonly known as the CLARITY Act.
According to a CoinDesk report, Democratic lawmakers raised concerns about several sections of the proposed cryptocurrency market structure legislation.
One of the main disagreements involves rules that would prevent senior government officials from holding significant cryptocurrency interests.
The proposed restrictions would apply to the US president, vice president and members of Congress.
Enforcement Rules Create Political Divide
The central dispute concerns which authority should enforce the proposed ethics rules.
Democratic senators reportedly want state attorneys general to have the power to investigate and enforce potential violations involving federal officials.
However, the White House and Republican supporters of the legislation want enforcement authority to remain with the US attorney general.
This disagreement has become one of the biggest obstacles preventing the bill from progressing.
Other Crypto Regulation Issues Remain Unresolved
Resolving the ethics dispute could allow lawmakers to move forward with the remaining sections of the CLARITY Act.
However, other questions are still under discussion. These include how cryptocurrency developers should be treated under provisions designed to prevent illicit financial activity.
Lawmakers are working to complete negotiations before the Senate begins its summer recess on August 7.
The final legislation could have major implications for cryptocurrency companies, investors and government officials.
US-Iran Conflict Limits Risk Appetite
Bitcoin’s recovery also faced pressure from escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.
The two countries continued exchanging military strikes for an 11th consecutive day, with few signs that the conflict was moving toward a resolution.
Washington warned that it could target Iran’s nuclear facilities. Tehran responded by saying that such an attack could cause a much broader escalation.
The uncertainty reduced investor demand for riskier assets, including cryptocurrencies.
Red Sea Disruption Pushes Oil Prices Higher
Oil prices rose sharply as the Middle East conflict threatened global shipping and energy supplies.
Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement announced a naval blockade in the Red Sea, increasing fears of further disruption along an important international trade route.
Higher oil prices can increase transportation and production costs across the global economy.
As a result, investors became more concerned that energy-related inflation could remain elevated.
Inflation Concerns Raise Interest-Rate Risks
Persistently high energy prices could complicate the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy outlook.
If inflation remains above target, the US central bank may delay interest-rate cuts or consider raising borrowing costs later in the year.
Higher interest rates are generally negative for speculative investments because they make safer, interest-bearing assets more attractive.
This environment could therefore limit further gains in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
Altcoins Decline as Crypto Rally Loses Momentum
The broader cryptocurrency market moved lower alongside Bitcoin as the recent recovery began to fade.
Ether, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market value, fell by 0.9% to around $1,917.
XRP declined by 0.2% to approximately $1.13.
Solana dropped by 1.8%, while Cardano recorded a larger decline of 3.1%. BNB also weakened by around 1.5%.
Memecoins Also Trade Lower
Major memecoins followed the wider market decline.
Dogecoin fell by approximately 1%, while the TRUMP token lost around 0.7%.
The broad pullback showed that traders remained cautious despite the recent improvement in ETF inflows.
Bitcoin’s next major move may depend on progress in US crypto regulation, developments in the Middle East and changing expectations for Federal Reserve interest-rate policy.
