SK Hynix Shares Rise After Nasdaq ADR Pricing

SK Hynix shares moved higher on Friday after the South Korean memory-chip company priced its major U.S. American Depositary Receipt offering.

The move highlighted strong investor demand for companies linked to artificial intelligence infrastructure and advanced memory chips.

SK Hynix Prices $26.5 Billion ADR Offering

SK Hynix priced 177.9 million ADRs at $149 each, raising about $26.5 billion.

The offering is one of the largest overseas equity raisings ever completed by an Asian company. The ADRs are expected to begin trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker SKHY.

Shares Gain, But Trail the KOSPI

At 00:13 ET, SK Hynix shares were up 3.6% at 2,264,000 won. However, the stock underperformed South Korea’s benchmark KOSPI, which gained around 5%.

Analysts said the weaker reaction did not signal disappointment with the deal. Instead, they pointed to profit-taking after a powerful rally in the stock.

Funding to Support AI Memory Expansion

SK Hynix plans to use the proceeds to fund new fabrication plants and chipmaking equipment.

The company is expanding production of high-bandwidth memory chips, which are used in Nvidia’s artificial intelligence accelerators. This has placed SK Hynix at the center of the global AI infrastructure boom.

Profit-Taking Weighs After Strong Rally

SK Hynix shares have fallen more than 7% this week and are down roughly 25% from recent record highs.

Even so, the stock remains up about 680% over the past 12 months, supported by strong earnings growth and high demand for AI memory chips.

Analysts Point to Consolidation

Vasu Menon, Managing Director of Investment Strategy at OCBC, said the recent weakness was not surprising after SK Hynix’s sharp outperformance.

He noted that SK Hynix shares in Korea are up more than 240% year-to-date, compared with an increase of about 80% for the KOSPI.

Menon added that large foreign offerings can create short-term selling pressure in the home market as investors rebalance between local shares and newly listed ADRs.

Nasdaq Listing Could Broaden Investor Demand

Beyond raising capital, the Nasdaq listing could be strategically important for SK Hynix.

A U.S. listing may help the company attract a wider investor base and reduce its valuation gap with global semiconductor rivals such as Micron Technology.

Investors Watch Nasdaq Debut

Market attention now turns to SK Hynix’s Nasdaq debut.

Investors will be watching whether Wall Street gives the AI memory leader a higher valuation and whether the listing helps close the gap with other major semiconductor companies.
