Micron Technology said Thursday that it will raise its planned U.S. investment to more than $250 billion through 2035. The move comes as demand for artificial intelligence memory chips continues to surge.

The company also announced a separate commitment of up to $3 billion to support the domestic semiconductor supply chain.

AI Demand Drives Micron’s Expansion

The announcement marks one of the largest U.S. expansion plans by an American chipmaker.

Washington has been pushing to bring more semiconductor manufacturing back to the United States. The goal is to secure critical supply chains and reduce reliance on overseas production, especially as the AI boom increases demand for advanced chips.

Micron’s investment is designed to expand U.S. memory chip production, strengthen domestic suppliers, and support a wider American semiconductor ecosystem.

Micron Targets 40% U.S. DRAM Production

Micron said the higher investment will help the company reach its long-term goal of producing 40% of its DRAM memory chips in the United States.

The company also marked an important milestone at its fabrication plant in Clay, New York. Micron said the first concrete pour was completed more than a quarter ahead of schedule.

This moves the project from site preparation into vertical construction. Micron has described the facility as the future largest semiconductor manufacturing site in U.S. history.

$3 Billion to Support the Chip Supply Chain

Separately, Micron said it will invest up to $3 billion in the U.S. semiconductor supply chain.

That includes $500 million in strategic financing for GlobalWafers. The funding will help expand GlobalWafers’ 300mm silicon wafer facility in Sherman, Texas.

Micron and GlobalWafers will also enter a 10-year supply agreement. The deal is intended to secure domestic wafer capacity for Micron’s future manufacturing needs.

New York Project Could Create 50,000 Jobs

Micron said its New York project could eventually include up to four fabrication plants.

The company expects the project to create around 50,000 jobs, including 9,000 direct positions.

Together with its planned projects in Idaho and Virginia, Micron expects its U.S. manufacturing expansion to support more than 90,000 jobs.

The company said it will continue to manage production carefully and align output with market demand.

Micron Strengthens U.S. Semiconductor Ambitions

Micron’s expanded investment highlights the growing importance of domestic chip production in the AI era.

As demand for memory chips rises, the company is positioning itself as a key player in the future of U.S. semiconductor manufacturing and supply chain security.
