German Import Prices Rise 6.8% in May
German import prices increased by 6.8% in May compared with the same month a year earlier, according to official data released on Tuesday.
The figures were published by Germany’s national statistics office.
Increase Exceeds Market Forecasts
The annual rise was slightly stronger than economists had expected.
Analysts surveyed before the release had forecast a 6.5% increase in German import prices.
The higher-than-expected result suggests that imported goods continued to place upward pressure on costs in Europe’s largest economy.
