Ukraine attempted to strike Russian President Vladimir Putin’s official residence in the Novgorod region using 91 drones, according to Russia’s foreign minister.
Sergei Lavrov said all of the drones were intercepted and destroyed before reaching their target. His comments were reported Monday by Russian state news agencies TASS and Interfax.
Following the incident, Lavrov said Russia plans to respond, adding that both the targets and timing of a retaliatory strike have already been decided. He noted that while Moscow intends to continue negotiations with the United States and other parties, Russia’s negotiating stance will be adjusted in light of the alleged attack.
Ukraine strongly rejected the accusations. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy dismissed the claims as false, calling them “lies” and warning that Russia may be laying the groundwork for attacks on Ukrainian government buildings in Kyiv.
Zelenskiy said the allegations are aimed at disrupting progress in Ukraine–U.S. diplomatic talks. He urged Washington to respond firmly to what he described as escalating Russian threats.
