U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday night that he had signed a bill ordering the release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. In the same statement, Trump accused his political rivals of having connections to the late convicted sex trafficker.
In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “I HAVE JUST SIGNED THE BILL TO RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES!” He said he had instructed Republican leaders in both the House and Senate to support full disclosure of the documents.
The files reportedly outline links between Epstein, several billionaires, political figures, and Russia. They also reference Trump multiple times, as well as former President Bill Clinton and former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers.
Earlier this month, Congress released several thousand pages from the case files.
On Wednesday, Trump claimed that Epstein had been a lifelong Democrat and a major donor to the party. He argued that Democrats were using the case to divert attention from his administration’s achievements during his second term.
According to Reuters, the White House had privately urged senators to postpone a vote on releasing the remaining files, even as Trump publicly pushed for transparency.
The effort collapsed this week after the Republican-led House voted to release the documents, sending the measure to Trump for final approval.
