The United States is considering a new rule that would require annual approvals for the export of chipmaking supplies to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix factories in China, according to a report from Bloomberg News on Monday.

Sources said U.S. Commerce Department officials recently shared the proposal with their South Korean counterparts. The plan introduces a “site license” system, which would replace the indefinite authorizations previously granted to the two chipmakers under the last administration.
