Amazon Brings Corporate Pay Model and Benefits to Grocery Subsidiary

Amazon.com announced it will extend its corporate pay structure and employee benefits to U.S. corporate staff at Whole Foods Market, a move designed to integrate its grocery operations more closely with its wider business.

The company said on Wednesday that by December 2026, all corporate employees across its grocery divisions will receive fully aligned benefits. Until then, Whole Foods corporate staff will continue to enjoy their in-store discount perks. Additionally, they will be given a code for a 10% discount on Amazon merchandise and access to the company’s online employee portal, which offers deals on phone plans, car insurance, travel, and entertainment.

“As we shared with employees in June, Whole Foods Market corporate staff will transition to the same programs and offerings as Amazon’s corporate employees, creating one consistent experience across teams,” spokesperson Lauren Snyder said.

This shift is intended to improve collaboration across Amazon’s grocery businesses, including Whole Foods, Amazon Fresh, and Amazon Go. The Wall Street Journal first reported the change, noting that Whole Foods employees will have around a month to review their updated titles, pay, and benefits.

Amazon has been placing greater emphasis on its grocery business in the United States, expanding Prime fast-delivery to cover fresh food and adding new cities to its network. This strategy positions the company more competitively against Walmart, Kroger, and delivery platforms like Instacart.

The e-commerce giant has committed over $4 billion to expand its U.S. delivery network by the end of 2026, focusing largely on small towns and rural regions.

Amazon originally acquired Whole Foods Market in 2017 for $13.7 billion. At that time, Whole Foods was best known for its premium organic offerings. Since the acquisition, Amazon has lowered prices and integrated grocery sales into its Prime subscription program.
