Meta (NASDAQ: META) is preparing to restructure its artificial intelligence division, according to a report from the New York Times (NYSE: NYT). The company plans to divide Meta Superintelligence Labs into four separate groups, with the announcement expected Tuesday.

The reorganization will establish dedicated teams focused on AI research, superintelligence development, AI products, and infrastructure such as data centers and hardware. Sources familiar with the plan said the move is designed to speed up AI product development and help Meta compete more effectively in the global market.

The shake-up follows months of adjustments to Meta’s AI strategy under CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Some senior AI executives are expected to leave, while others may be reassigned. Meta is also considering downsizing the division, which currently employs thousands. That could mean eliminating positions or transferring staff to other business units.

In a possible strategic shift, Meta is exploring the use of third-party AI models to support its products. This may include adopting open-source models or licensing proprietary models from external providers instead of relying only on in-house systems.
