Elon Musk Launches New Political Party Following Public Support

Elon Musk announced the creation of a new political party on Sunday, inspired by an online poll he ran on X (formerly Twitter), where 65% of respondents expressed support for a new political movement.

“By a margin of two to one, you’ve asked for a new political party—and now you have one!” Musk posted.
He added, “When it comes to draining our nation through corruption and waste, we don’t have a true democracy—we have a one-party system. Today, the American Party is born to restore your freedom.”

Musk’s announcement comes amid increasing public discontent with the dominance of the two major U.S. parties. A recent poll by Quantus Insights found that 40% of Americans would consider supporting a political party led by Musk. Of those surveyed, 14% said they were “very likely” to support the effort, while another 26% said they were “somewhat likely.” Meanwhile, 38% opposed the idea, and 22% were undecided.

The move also follows Musk’s recent public confrontation with President Donald Trump, centered on a controversial legislative package dubbed the “One Big, Beautiful Bill.” Musk criticized the proposal as “insane,” sparking a widely publicized online spat between the two figures.

It remains uncertain whether the American Party plans to run candidates in the 2026 midterm elections or aims instead for a broader overhaul of the political system. Still, Musk’s entry into the political arena capitalizes on growing voter frustration and presents his new party as a challenge to the status quo.

Given his considerable influence in technology, business, and media—and his massive social media following—Musk could significantly shift political discourse as the 2026 and 2028 election cycles approach.
