Trump Calls on Federal Reserve to Slash Rates by One Full Percentage Point

President Donald Trump has ramped up his criticism of the Federal Reserve, calling for an aggressive, full percentage point cut in interest rates. On Friday, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to lash out at Fed Chair Jerome Powell, sarcastically dubbing him “Too Late” at the Fed.

“‘Too Late’ at the Fed is a disaster! Europe has had 10 rate cuts, we have had none. Despite him, our Country is doing great. Go for a full point, Rocket Fuel!” Trump posted.

While it is not uncommon for Trump to advocate for lower interest rates, a 100-basis-point cut is a highly unusual request. The former president has frequently criticized Powell for his perceived reluctance to ease monetary policy.

The Federal Reserve’s next policy meeting is scheduled for June 17–18 in Washington, where officials are widely expected to keep the benchmark rate unchanged, maintaining the cautious approach they’ve taken throughout the year. Many policymakers have indicated they want to wait for more clarity on Trump’s evolving positions on trade, taxation, and immigration before considering any changes.

In a follow-up post, Trump accused Powell of unnecessarily raising the government’s borrowing costs by keeping interest rates elevated, suggesting that the nation could be saving significantly if rates were lower.
