Tesla Expected to Launch Robotaxi Service in Austin on June 12 – Bloomberg

Tesla is preparing to roll out its long-anticipated robotaxi service in Austin on June 12, according to a report from Bloomberg News on Wednesday, which cited a source with direct knowledge of the plans.

The report noted that the date has been discussed internally but may still be subject to change.

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.

Earlier this month, CEO Elon Musk confirmed that the company planned to begin pilot testing its long-promised autonomous ride-hailing service in Austin, Texas, by the end of June, remaining on track with earlier timelines.

A successful launch of the robotaxi program is seen as pivotal for Tesla, especially as Musk has redirected the company’s strategic focus away from developing a new low-cost EV platform and toward scaling its autonomous vehicle initiative and Optimus humanoid robots. These future-facing technologies are central to Tesla’s long-term valuation and investor confidence.

Tesla has also been facing global sales declines amid intensifying competition and growing public criticism of Musk’s political involvement—including his advisory role in President Donald Trump’s administration.
