Telegram Update Introduces NFT-Enabled Collectible Gifts for Users

Telegram’s latest update brings a new dimension to digital gifting by enabling users to upgrade gifts into non-fungible tokens (NFTs), making them tradable and customizable digital assets.

According to a recent blog post, the new feature allows users to transform virtual gifts into unique collectible items with personalized attributes that can be bought, sold, or exchanged on NFT marketplaces.

Digital Gifts Upgraded to NFTs

The update offers customizable elements for digital gifts, such as background colors and icons, ensuring that each item is unique. The upgrade process requires Telegram Stars, the platform’s native digital currency, to cover blockchain-related fees.

More than 20 types of digital gifts, including popular items like Jelly Bunny and Santa Hat, are eligible for NFT upgrades. Telegram’s collectible library now features over 1,400 unique appearances, with plans to expand even further. These collectibles can be instantly transferred, traded, or exchanged, providing users with enhanced flexibility and personalization options.

New Functional Features Added

Alongside the NFT upgrade, Telegram has introduced additional features to improve the user experience:

  • Message Search Filters: Users can refine search results by category (private chats, group chats, channels) directly within the search bar.
  • Built-in QR Code Scanner: Integrated into the app’s camera for both Android and iOS, this feature allows users to scan QR codes and open links without leaving the app.
  • Service Message Reactions: Users can now react to service notifications—such as group invites, gift receipts, or video chat invites—with quick reactions via taps.

Security Concerns: Scam Bots Targeting Crypto Users

Despite the positive update, blockchain security firm Scam Sniffer has identified an emerging threat involving Telegram bots targeting cryptocurrency users.

Scammers have been using fake verification bots to spread malware designed to access victims’ crypto wallets. These schemes involve luring users into Telegram groups under the guise of well-known crypto influencers using fake X (formerly Twitter) accounts.

Once in the group, users are instructed to verify their accounts via a bot named “OfficiaISafeguardBot.” This bot uses PowerShell code to inject malware into the victim’s system, allowing scammers to steal private keys and drain crypto wallets.

Telegram’s latest features underscore its push for more customizable and interactive digital assets but also highlight the importance of security as crypto-related scams become more sophisticated. Users are encouraged to stay vigilant and verify the authenticity of bots and groups before engaging.
